RICS London Regional Board and Women In Surveying are pleased to invite you to a CPD event at RICS HQ on 3 October 2024 to learn about ‘three first women’:

Ethel Charles (1871-1962) the first female architect

Marjory Allen (1897-1976) the first female landscape architect

Irene Barclay (1894-1989) the first female chartered surveyor

Arrive at 17.30 for a start at 18.00 and drinks and nibbles networking at 19.00-20.00

Presentations by Professor Carrie de Silva and Dr Rebecca Preston.

Carrie de Silva

Carrie is a Visiting Professor of Real Estate Practice Law at Harper Adams University and an Honorary Professor at the Royal Agricultural University.  She has written widely, including several entries for the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, including Irene Barclay, the first woman chartered surveyor and Carrie Morrison, the first woman solicitor.

Dr Rebecca Preston

Rebecca is a historian with the English Heritage London blue plaques scheme. She is currently also a Senior Research Fellow (maternity cover) with the Survey of London at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, and a Co-convenor of the Women in Architectural History Network of the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain. Previously she held posts in the History Department at Royal Holloway, University of London.
