The expertise of all RICS professionals delivers confidence in the public interest, and we were honoured to have the profession’s important contribution reaffirmed by receiving the patronage of His Majesty, King Charles III. The patronage continues a long-standing tradition of royal support that began in 1881, and I know it is a source of pride for many of you who reacted to the announcement.

Entry and Assessment Review

Ensuring that we attract and qualify our next generation of surveying professionals with the right skills to address future challenges remains our priority, and this week, we published the Entry and Assessment Review final report and recommendations. The review, established by the RICS Standards and Regulation Board, proposes a new modular assessment structure to create a clearer, more consistent and inclusive assessment process. We want you to have your say on how we qualify future RICS professionals, so please feed in your views at www.rics.org/EntryReview

Permanent SRB appointed

This month, we welcomed the appointment of a new permanent Standards and Regulation Board (SRB), which, alongside setting standards of entry and assessment, has the important role of delivering independent regulation of the profession. The five RICS members and five independent members of the board were selected from almost 300 high-quality applications, and they will work with SRB Chair Nigel Clarke to advance our programme of work to strengthen the public’s trust in our profession.

Contribute to the future of RICS

If you would like to be more directly involved in our work, there are excellent opportunities to help shape the future of RICS. Chartered members (MRICS/FRICS) can apply to be RICS Senior Vice President by 17 June. This RICS SVP eventually transitions to become the RICS President, and it is a unique platform to represent the profession and interact with senior figures from related sectors, international institutions and governments.

You can also register your interest in standing for election to the Governing Council, a role on our highest governing body and an opportunity to steer the future of our global profession – apply here before nominations open on 18 June. In addition to these, there is a vacancy for an RICS member to join our Audit, Risk Assurance and Finance Committee, which closes on 17 June.

Upcoming member events

We continue to create more opportunities for you to connect and engage, and this month, we began our Shaping the Future series of regional events in the UK for members to share their views on regional issues and hear from members of the RICS Presidential and Executive teams. You can book here to secure your place at the five upcoming events covering half of our UK regions. Enhancing member value and engagement is essential to us globally, and this year, we have hosted over 120 events across 30 countries, with a full programme planned for the rest of the year - do check our website for the events closest to you.  We also invite you to register for our Annual General Meeting on 27 June, held in-person at our London office and also online.  To provide you with further context before the AGM, we will soon be publishing our 2023 annual review and corporate reports.
