Four RICS members have been named in the King’s Birthday Honours list 2024. This prestigious recognition acknowledges the exceptional contributions of individuals to their professions, communities and society at large. Among the distinguished honourees are RICS members Nicholas Maclean FRICS, Peter McCrea FRICS, Michael Garvey FRICS and Richard Warburton FRICS.
Nicholas Maclean: Honoured for services to trade and bilateral relations
Nicholas Maclean FRICS, currently serving as the RICS senior vice president, has been honoured with an OBE for his significant contributions to trade and bilateral relations. Maclean, who lives and works in the United Arab Emirates, holds a significant role as the Scottish Government's trade and investment envoy to the UAE. His dedication and expertise have made a substantial impact on international trade relations.
Maclean’s journey with RICS is marked by several notable leadership positions. He has served on the RICS Governing Council, first as a member, then as interim chair, and later as an interim RICS Board Member and Chair of the RICS Membership Services Committee. Additionally, he played a crucial role in the RICS MENA Market Advisory Panel, first as a member and then as chair. Maclean’s commitment to trade and international relations is further demonstrated through his involvement with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce’s International Advisory Board. His accolades include the First Minister's Award for Services to Trade and Bilateral Relations and Nicholas was named in Arabian Business’ Top 100 Executives in the UAE in 2023.
Peter McCrea: Honoured for dedication to the surveying profession
Peter McCrea FRICS, the outgoing chair of LionHeart, has been awarded an OBE for his services to the profession. McCrea's tenure as chair, spanning two three-year terms, has been marked by significant growth and expansion of LionHeart's services. His leadership was instrumental in navigating the organisation through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since his arrival as a trustee in 2017, his dedication and commitment have left a lasting impact on the organisation and the wider surveying community.
McCrea expressed his gratitude for the recognition, emphasising that the honour reflects the collective efforts of LionHeart staff, board, and volunteers. Phil Sparke, CEO of LionHeart, said: ‘Peter has served LionHeart with dedication and commitment for almost eight years, including six as chair of the board. This is most worthy recognition for many years of service and commitment - a very proud moment for Peter and his family, and for LionHeart as a whole.’
Michael Garvey: Recognised for contributions to business in Buckinghamshire
Michael Garvey FRICS has been recognised with an MBE for his services to business in Buckinghamshire. His career as a Chartered Surveyor has allowed him to play a pivotal role in economic development within the region. Garvey has been a driving force behind various organisations supporting business growth and development in Buckinghamshire.
Richard Warburton: Honoured for services to British commercial interests and the British community in Singapore
Richard Warburton FRICS has been honoured in His Majesty the King's Birthday Honours Overseas and International List, and awarded an MBE for his outstanding services to British commercial interests and the British community in Singapore.
