How are cities accelerating progress towards a sustainable future?

Online

Overview

Home to almost 60% of the world’s population, progress towards a sustainable future is heavily dependent on the performance of our cities. With less than 2,000 days until the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals deadline, it is crucial to assess how cities are advancing.

What differentiates cities that are able to sustain momentum from others? The 2024 Arcadis Sustainable Cities Index reflects on a decade of progress made by 100 cities worldwide. With the fastest progress occurring at the start of the sustainability journey, cities like Jakarta, Hanoi and Sao Paulo are showing early momentum. In contrast, other cities, such as Toronto, Oslo, and New York, already rank highly, but now face falling momentum and diminishing returns on further investment. Amsterdam, however, continues to make good progress and leads from the front.

Featuring case studies from Europe and Asia Pacific, our expert panel will assess the approaches adopted by cities to achieve momentum on sustainability. The webinar will discuss best practices being undertaken to transition towards renewables, adapt to climate change impacts, and enhance mobility infrastructure. The webinar will also explore how cities can maintain and accelerate their progress, as well as discussing why some cities are experiencing slowdown or stagnation and how these challenges can be overcome.
