Strategies for design, construction and financing against climate disasters

Overview

The past twenty years have witnessed an increased frequency and severity of natural disasters, exacerbated by climate change, according to UNDRR. Developing countries, with their geographic vulnerabilities, are particularly at risk of catastrophic events such as floods, storms, and earthquakes. Enhancing building resilience is crucial to minimising the effects of these disasters.

This webinar will explore how we can improve building resilience by changing the way buildings are designed, constructed, retrofitted, and financed. A short presentation will also highlight the IFC’s Building Resilience Index, a web-based tool designed to help the building sector assess and mitigate applicable risks while improving transparency in disclosing a building’s resilience.

Additionally, the webinar will feature case studies of successful IFC resilience projects and the lessons that can be learnt from them.

This webinar will be of interest to all those who recognise the urgent need to improve building resilience, including stakeholders in construction, development, banking, insurance, and government, as well as investors, landlords, and occupiers.

Participants include:

  • James Kavanagh MRICS, Head of Professional Practice, RICS (moderator)
  • Mattia Donatto, Associate Director, AKT II
  • Aris Papadopoulos, Founding Chair, Resilience Action Fund
