Overview
Health and safety (H&S) is still a major concern in the construction and property sectors, with many hidden costs that are rarely fully factored into construction procurement and property management decisions.
The recent publication of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 report sheds new light on numerous industry failings in terms of health and safety, and several recommendations have emerged from this report that will have significant implications.
The digital revolution has the potential to transform project management, addressing some of the concerns raised in this report, the Phase 1 report, and the subsequent Building Safety Act (BSA) requirements. However, progress is patchy, and there does not appear to be a clear roadmap for fully leveraging Industry 4.0 to improve H&S in the construction and property sectors.
In this joint academia-industry workshop, we will look at the emerging issues raised by the BSA and Grenfell reports, as well as ongoing R&D efforts to harness the power of Industry 4.0 to facilitate effective H&S management, as well as opportunities for industry to collaborate with academia on such research.
