Overview

The retrofitting of buildings to improve carbon efficiency is becoming increasingly important.  It has also become apparent that interventions in any building need to be carefully managed to ensure they do not have a negative impact on carbon emissions.

Particular care needs to be taken with historic buildings                which were often designed to ‘breathe’ in a way which may conflict with modern insulation and other modern materials.  Additionally historical significance may be lost when alterations are made.  These are concerns which apply to all historic buildings but in particular to those which are ‘listed’ where consent may be required before some changes can be made.

The issues have been recognised by Historic England for some time now and this has culminated in the recent publication of an Advice Note summarising the issues which should be considered.

The talk will be presented by Dr Sophie Buckingham, Conservation and Design Officer at Norwich City Council

There will be a buffet lunch available for attendees from 12:00 with the talk beginning at 12:45
