We are looking to appoint further Independent (non-RICS) Members to join the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Regulatory Tribunal.
RICS’ Regulatory Tribunal performs a critical service in RICS’ self-regulatory model, with responsibility for independent decision making through RICS’ Disciplinary, Registration and Appeal Panels and through Single Member decisions. The Regulatory Tribunal is made up of approximately twenty-five individuals, including both independent RICS professionals and non-RICS members, who either sit in panels of three (assisted by a legal adviser) to determine regulatory matters or, in certain cases, determine cases as Single decision makers.
The purpose of the role is to contribute to the Regulatory Tribunal’s performance of its regulatory function for RICS to regulate its Membership, ensuring decisions support the public interest and to retain public confidence in the Regulatory Tribunal, RICS and RICS Members. The Regulatory Tribunal is supported in its work by a small and dedicated staff team, managed by the Head of Regulatory Tribunals.
The work of the Tribunal is varied, and Members can undertake Panel hearings as a group of three or make Single Member decisions on the papers in private consideration. A Member should expect to commit 7-20 days a year for hearings of 1 up to 5 days in length (occasionally longer), reading and preparation time, attending training events and undertaking single decisions (on the papers). The current daily rate is £340 per day for hearings (£170 for half-day single decisions) plus reasonable travel and subsistence expenses. The appointments are to commence from mid-February 2025 onwards (initially for three years).
