In August 1881, RICS was incorporated by Royal Charter in the United Kingdom. Our core purpose to promote the usefulness of the profession for the advantage of the public has been our guiding light since our foundation in 1868. We are proud to be a Royal Institution and to have a long tradition of supporting our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen.

In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, which represents seventy years of service to the nation.

RICS will be marking this historic occasion by taking part in the Platinum Jubilee Beacons, which will be lit at 9:30 pm on the evening of the 2nd of June. RICS has a long tradition of participation in Jubilee beacons, dating back to the Silver Jubilee.

A number of our beacons are being lit at special locations where we have been asked to keep attendance numbers to a minimum. However, RICS Members are welcome to join the celebrations at the following sites, which are open to the public.

  • Criffel, Dumfries and Galloway
  • Beacon Hill, Charwood
  • Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds
  • Stowmarket Recreation Ground, Suffolk
