Course Information

ICMS offers a high-level framework against which life cycle costs and carbon emissions can be classified, defined, measured, recorded, analysed, presented and compared.

This training module describes how ICMS 3 uniquely provides a common breakdown reporting structure for life cycle costs and carbon emissions. Its principal purpose is to allow:

  • Construction life cycle costs and carbon emissions to be consistently and transparently benchmarked internationally, nationally or regionally (comparative benchmarking) across buildings and infrastructure
  • Properly informed investment decisions on the design and location of construction projects to be made at the best value for money (investment decision-making)
  • Data to be used with confidence for construction project financing and investment, decision-making, and related purposes (certainty)

Furthermore, with the addition of Carbon Emissions included into ICMS 3. This course will enable you to: understand the relevance of climate change and carbon emissions to construction projects. Whilst providing examples of when carbon emissions arise across the construction project life cycle.

  • Recognise how to report carbon emissions alongside costs using the ACROME framework set out in ICMS3
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to start to apply ICMS3 carbon reporting on specific buildings and infrastructure construction projects.

Learning Outcomes

  • List the difference between ICMS2-3
  • Demonstrate sufficient understanding of the principles of whole life value
  • Identify risks associated with LCC & carbon emissions
  • Apply ICMS3 standards to different projects
  • Know how to manage, report, benchmark and reduce carbon
  • Compare projects to check attributes for similarities
