Whole life carbon assessment (WCLA) is a method of evaluating the total carbon emissions produced throughout the lifecycle of a built asset. This includes the carbon emissions associated with the production of materials, the construction process, the use of the built asset, to its final disposal.
RICS published the second edition of the Whole Life Carbon Assessment standard in September 2023. This global professional standard, which now covers all buildings and infrastructure in the built environment, can be used by a range of professionals, from quantity surveyors, cost consultants and building surveyors to designers, engineers and environmental, social and governance consultants, to meet client and government demand for consistent and accurate carbon measurement.
View our Whole Life Carbon Assessment webinar where our expert speaker introduces the main sections within the WLCA professional standard and brings them to life with practical examples including the use of BECS (Built Environment Carbon Database).
