Overview

The RICS East of England Regional Board look forward to welcoming you to our inaugural SME half day seminar.  The event will start with a networking lunch, where you will also have the opportunity to meet with board members.

Whilst this event is aimed at smaller surveying practices, or those aspiring to become a partner it would also be useful for those wishing to learn more about the topics to be covered.  The hope is for this event to open the way to an annual SME seminar.

There are a variety of risks, threats, duties and responsibilities facing every practice.  There are plenty of people trying to sell solutions and it can be hard to differentiate between real and imagined risks.

In this inaugural event we will look at three of the key issues which affect a surveying practice:

  • Insurance
  • IT
  • RICS regulation

More detail along with information on our three expert speakers is as follows:

Insurance

Greg Harrison, Divisional Director at Howden Insurance

Greg will discuss some of the issues around insurance and they types of insurance which might be necessary.  To include Professional Indemnity Insurance, Employer’s liability insurance, Public Liability Insurance and (the hot new topic) cyber insurance.

IT

Jason Pink, Director, Anglia Computer Solutions

Jason will discuss the IT issues that affect smaller practices.  Issues such as the use of cloud-based data storage, the importance of protecting your data, and some of the threats which face a typical surveying practice and what sensible, proportionate precautions.

Regulation

Nigel Clarke, Independent Chair, RICS Standards and Regulation Board

Nigel has been a permanent Chair of the SRB since November 2023 and will talk to us about the importance of regulation and the benefits and obligations brought to practices by the ‘Regulated by RICS’ designation.
