Following feedback on the proposed changes to concessions for 2025, which included views on how the Working Part Time concession was being used and gaps in provision if it were removed, we undertook a review to support an alternative solution. This included consultation with our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) forum and network leaders, regional board leads, representatives from different aspects of our membership, RICS Board, Governing Council, the Presidential Team and views from over 700 members via an online survey.
Following this consultation, the Governing Council has agreed the concessions framework for 2025. Those working part time will now be captured as a sub-section of the following concessions:
Category |
Unable to work |
Working part time |
Family raising |
90% |
50% |
Caring responsibilities |
90% |
50% |
Retirement |
90% |
50% |
Ill health, incapacity or disability |
90% |
50% |
Additionally, the definition of the non-practising concession has been tightened to reflect that it has been designed to support members wishing to retain their RICS professional status whilst having moved to careers outside of the profession.
The Unemployment concession rate will progress as planned allowing for a 50% discount on membership fees. We want to be there to support members back into work and believe that RICS offers an important platform by increasing employment and salary potential through accreditation, as well as many opportunities for networking and maintaining learning and development at this crucial time.
The Dual Membership, Parental or Adoption Leave, Academic and other concessions will remain unchanged from 2024.
Members not captured in the categories above, who are working part time and facing exceptional financial constraints, can apply for a concession by emailing contactrics@rics.org or calling the member support team on +44 (0)2476 868 555, or your local team details can be found here. These requests will be considered on a case by case basis.
Full details of the concessions framework for 2025 and eligibility criteria for each of the concessions is available here, as well as the online application form.
While changes have been made to the concessions framework in 2025 following an extensive consultation, we recognise the needs of our members are constantly evolving. Therefore, in the first quarter of 2026 we will start work with our members on a longer-term concessions framework.
