RICS member appointed High Sheriff of Bedfordshire

Experienced surveyor and RICS member Bav Shah has been installed as High Sheriff of Bedfordshire by appointment of His Majesty the King – becoming one of the youngest people ever to take up the position of High Sheriff in the UK.

Born and raised in Luton, Bav still resides in the county and operates an independent practice from the area. As High Sheriff, he is the King’s representative in the county for matters relating to the judiciary and the maintenance of law and order. As part of his duties, Bav has so far attended two royal visits and performed returning officer duties, announcing the constituency results for the general election.  His role will also see him spotlight and support individuals, groups and organisations driving positive change in their communities.

Bav qualified as a Chartered Surveyor after graduating from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Real Estate Management and continues to hold an advisory role at the university where he also mentors students. During his career Bav has worked in both the UK and Australia, spending time with national and international companies as well as brands local to Bedfordshire. He set up his own practice – Business Property Solutions Chartered Surveyors – in 2016 after returning from working in Australia.

Bav said: “It’s an honour to be appointed to this role and I am excited about the possibilities to work with the county’s community over the coming year. I’m particularly keen to use my experience to promote youth development and to bridge the gaps between the younger and older members of the community. I’m a firm believer that we all have lots to learn from each other, regardless of age or background.

“I’d also like to focus on surveyors and how our industry can positively contribute to our local communities. I hope to be a strong ambassador for the profession in this new role. I would welcome the opportunity to speak to anyone who’d like to find out more about the role of High Sherrif or get some advice on contributing to their communities.”

Bav’s term as High Sheriff of Bedfordshire will continue until March 2025.
