Throughout RICS’ efforts to promote the profession and support the next generation of professionals, we have continued to prioritize our work with local universities.  The latest example of this work is seen in the launch of a pilot mentoring program in partnership with University of Technology Jamaica (UTech).

Through this pilot initiative, RICS is working with the University, specifically their quantity surveying, valuation, and land surveying programs, to support selected final-year students as they begin their journey into the profession.

RICS and UTech has matched each student with an RICS member who is volunteering their time to support the students as they make key decisions about the direction of their careers. Students and mentors are expected to meet at least monthly, identify an area of development, and work towards objectives that will further professional and personal growth.  It is encouraged that each student and mentor work on the some of the mandatory competencies such as ethics and customer care,

The pilot is intended to run through the end of 2023 and we look forward to continuing the program at UTech in the Spring 2024 semester and exploring similar initiatives with other university programs throughout the Americas.

RICS is grateful for the RICS members that are volunteering their time. We are also fortunate to work with dedicated faculty at UTech and a group of talented and driven students as we, together, develop the next generation of built environment professionals.
