At RICS DRS, we are proud of our robust and transparent processes that ensure excellence in our adjudication services. Between May 2023 and April 2024, we received 1,340 adjudication referrals - a testament to the trust placed in our institution to deliver high-quality, impartial dispute resolution services.
Our thorough training, application and assessment processes ensure that only the most qualified adjudicators join our panel. This commitment to quality is further strengthened by ongoing competency training, regular rigorous reassessment interviews, specific dispute resolution CPD requirements, and complaints, disciplinary and regulatory processes. These are all designed to ensure that our adjudicators consistently meet the high standards expected by RICS and the wider industry and enable RICS to fulfil its Royal Charter obligation to work to the public advantage.
DRS is also instrumental in developing and maintaining RICS’s leading Professional Standards on property and construction arbitration adjudication, expert determination, mediation, expert witness practice, advocacy and professional representation, amongst others.
The RICS Dispute Resolution Service is a Directorate within the Regulatory arm of RICS and falls under the direct control of the RICS Standards and Regulation Board. It is in addition overseen by the independent Dispute Resolution Appointments Board, chaired by former RICS
President, Amanda Clack FRICS. RICS governance prioritises transparency in our appointments and our commitment to fair and effective dispute resolution.
The data shared in the recently published Construction Adjudication Report by King’s College London highlights the importance of a structured, well-managed approach to adjudication. Our nomination fee reflects the rigorous processes and governance that underpin our services, and the costs involved in maintaining this level of quality assurance and oversight, enabling us to appoint from a panel of the highest calibre professionals backed up by institutional standards and rigorous governance, thus providing confidence to all parties involved.
We remain committed to ensuring that our adjudication services continue to set the benchmark for professionalism and integrity.
