This is a online course that you can study in your own time. There are six modules, plus an exam at the end of the course. In each module, you have access to eLearning, reading, case study and a quiz. You also have access to live online consolidation sessions, where a tutor will take you through the module, case study and any tricky elements of learning. Each module is expected to take you one month. You are given a further two months to complete your exam and complete any further outstanding work. After this time, the course will end, and you will no longer have access to these materials.

Overview

‘How much will it cost?’ is often the key question on any building project, and it’s so important to build up vital core knowledge that you can apply to your work. With an increased focus on effective cost management, as well as the environment and sustainability in construction projects, there is high demand for Quantity Surveyors to provide a cost management service to the construction industry.

Taught by an industry expert, this eight-month course comprehensively covers the role of a Quantity Surveyor.   This includes the fundamentals of cost management, procurement routes, forms of contract, cost planning, change control, and project financial control and reporting. All content is designed and maintained to furnish you with the crucial skills to work autonomously or as part of a team on project tasks.

By taking this course, you will learn about quantity surveying from the ground up, so you can work autonomously or part of a project team on a variety on construction project tasks.

Meet the trainer

Dr. Daniel Cadman BSc (Hons) MAEd MRes PhD PGCHE FHEA FRICS is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, and Fellow of the RICS, with over 15 years’ experience delivering Cost Management services. His skills and experience include feasibility advice, cost planning, strategic procurement and contract advice, contract administration, project financial control and reporting, claims management, dispute avoidance, advice on collaborative behaviours, sustainability and social value.

He has significant experience in the Public Sector with a particular focus on cultural and heritage assets and the delivery of large public realm and infrastructure schemes ranging in value from £100k to £330m. He also has broad experience across the Commercial Property and Higher Education sectors and is currently leading the Cost Management team on the restoration of the Grade I listed ‘Our Town Hall’ Project for Manchester City Council.

Daniel has a unique combination of extensive research experience, has completed a PhD at Lancaster University and has a strong background in Education and Mentoring, he has previously lectured in Quantity Surveying and still guest lecture at Universities across the North West.
