Council is keen to engage with our members and to hear your questions and views and we will be setting time aside on each meeting agenda for this purpose. If you have a question to raise with Council please visit Ask Governing Council (rics.org).
Presidential team
The first day of the September Council meeting was dedicated to the election of the Senior Vice President (SVP) for 2025. Council received presentations from three shortlisted candidates and held question and answer sessions with the candidates. Having heard from each candidate, Council voted to elect Maureen Ehrenberg as SVP for 2025.
Council also confirmed, in accordance with the Standing Orders, that Justin Sullivan would be President and that Nick Maclean would be President Elect for the 2025 session of Governing Council. All three members of the 2025 Presidential Team will take on their new roles from 1 January 2025.
Governing Council initiatives
- Council received an update on a number of initiatives overseen by members of Council.
- Highlights included progress in globalising Matrics, enhancing routes of entry to attract more student members, increasing the number of accredited university programmes, and exploring new communications technologies.
- Two areas, which had seen progress delayed whilst the outcomes of the entry and assessment review were awaited, were those to streamline the APC process, and to develop a value proposition for fellowship.
- A new Director of Transformation will now be coordinating the progression of these initiatives, within a consolidated programme of the various transformation projects that are underway across RICS.
Subscriptions Framework 2025
- Council discussed an update on the 2025 subscriptions and concessions frameworks along with planned communications to members.
Business Plan & Budget 2025-2027
- Council discussed an update on the preparation of the business plan and budget, which will be presented to Council for approval in November, and noted early indications of RICS’ projected operating result in 2025.
Entry & Assessments Review
- Council discussed a summary of the key findings and recommendations of the entry and assessments review. A first stage analysis had been considered by the Qualifications & Assessment Committee (QAC) in early September and the QAC would be submitting recommendations to the Standards & Regulation Board (SRB) in late September. Council noted that it would receive a full report from the SRB in November.
Sustainability Entry Pathway
- Council discussed a proposal to develop a sustainability entry pathway, and agreed to set up a working group to provide further insight to consider options for the proposal.
Long Term Strategy
- Council considered a series of statements related to the RICS vision for 2030-2035, which derived from the output of Council’s long term strategy brainstorming session in June. Feedback from the debate on the vision statements will be consolidated and brought back to Council for discussion as to how the visions for 5-10 years’ time will be achieved.
Questions from Members
- It was noted that no questions had been received from members by the deadline for questions to be considered at the September Council meeting.
