The newly formed member-led Professional Group Panels (PGPs) have been created to advance the knowledge and practice of surveying for the public advantage.

PGPs are structured to focus on specific sectors, ensuring targeted attention and strategic oversight. Each PGP comprises 8-12 dedicated members ready to make a difference.

The purpose of the Professional Group Panels is to maintain and develop the knowledge and practice of surveying for the public advantage through:

  1. RICS influence in the sector through research and thought leadership.
  2. Contribution to the RICS strategy on sustainability by providing market feedback, input, and ideas to plans.
  3. Development of relevant technical standards, guidance and best practice for Members and Firms.
  4. Defining future skills and delivery of knowledge and CPD outputs for the sector.
  5. Contribution to the competences required for relevant APC pathways and inspiring the next generation.

The Professional Group Panels report to the Knowledge and Practice Committee in advancing the profession.

As one of our RICS Board Committees, The Knowledge and Practice Committee are responsible for overseeing the advancement of knowledge and professional practice. This includes developing the provision of advice and information, training and professional development materials and the sharing of best practice and training and development opportunities for members. Reporting to the RICS Board, the Committee will support the implementation and development of technical standards (providing input to the Standards and Regulation Board) and assist in amplifying the voice of the profession.

FAQs

The Professional Group Panels have been formed following the recommendations in the Bichard RICS Review to ensure a greater role and voice for the professional disciplines within RICS’ formal governance structure. Their formation was based on extensive global consultation and roundtable discussion with members.

Chairs and members of the PGPs were appointed through a transparent process defined by the Nominations and Renumeration Committee.  A paper-based selection process was proposed for the members of the PGPs to ensure that this process is completed in an efficient, transparent, and clear manner. The chairs of the PGPs, who also sit on the Knowledge and Practice Committee, were appointed in accordance with the Global Appointments Model (GAM). Panel Members were selected by Chairs of the PGPs and approved by Simon Rawlinson, Chair of the Knowledge and Practice Committee.

PGPs will meet at least quarterly. The work of each PGP will be supported by RICS staff, including a responsible lead with appropriate sector expertise to act as the leading point of engagement with the chair and panel members.

The current appointment process has finished, but there will be opportunities in the future, as PGPs develop. Please register your interest at PGP@rics.org.
