All entries demonstrate industry leading achievements and show the highest standards of professionalism across the built environment in New Zealand.
It was also our honour to announce Andrew Buckingham MRICS, as the recipient of the most prestigious award for built environment professionals, the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Andrew is an accomplished multi-disciplined property professional who has dedicated nearly four decades to the commercial property profession across New Zealand and Australia. He is a seasoned senior executive whose name has become synonymous with excellence in leading teams in the development and delivery of large -scale commercial projects such as Sylvia Park, ASB North Wharf, Wynyard Central and Commercial Bay in Auckland as well as the Bowen Campus in Wellington. Since February 2022, Andrew Buckingham has been the Chief Property Officer at Oceania Healthcare.
A Chartered Member of RICS since 2004, Andrew is a proud ambassador of the institution and has contributed to the driving force behind growth in New Zealand.

The team combines expertise in software customisation, physical inspections, database enhancement, and condition assessments to provide accurate and comprehensive asset data for clients. Beca’s recent project with Water Authority of Fiji showcases their excellence in adopting and customising Autodesk Construction Cloud to capture and analyse over 10,000 water and wastewater assets across 110 islands, enabling better asset management and planning.
The project yielded positive outcomes that brought significant improvements to the client’s asset management.

B201 Redevelopment Project
The B201 redevelopment project for the University of Auckland has transformed the 50-year-old Social Sciences Building, located on a 6,000 sqm site, into a world-leading educational environment for the faculties of Education and Social Work, Arts, and Creative Arts and Industries.
Precon worked with the University to provide comprehensive project management services from the projects’ conception (in mid-2019) to the completion of Construction (in 2023).
All three projects were completed in time following the planned schedule. A huge testament to the Project Management team, who excelled in the navigation of all the unique challenges with a proactive and strategic approach.
Property Services Team, Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland
The Property Services Division is made up of circa 130FTE across 5 teams. They manage and develop Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland’s Estate and Operations. The team supports a community of approximately 14,000 staff and 43,500 students. The University Estate encompasses a gross floor area (GFA) of 719,046 m2, within 237 buildings and includes 206 hectares of land, over four main campuses.
In 2023 the team, comprised of diverse skillsets and backgrounds, delivered the B201 adaptive reuse project, responded to the severe weather events and have continued to deliver on the inaugural Estate Strategy, Te Rautaki Tuapapa.

Hatch Consulting is revolutionising the role of Professional Quantity Surveyors in NZ. The success of their collaborative and practical approach is evidenced by their role in major projects like the Tauhara Geothermal Power Station.

Affordable Housing Portfolio Support and Establishment
KPMG’s Infrastructure, Assets & Places (IAP) team supported transferring large affordable housing portfolios into community housing provider management, facilitating transactions and authoring asset management plans. KPMG helped establish a Community Housing Provider for Wellington City Council’s 2,000 affordable housing units and developed a housing strategy for Ruapōtaka Marae, Auckland.
KPMG leveraged multi-disciplinary expertise in technical, financial, legal and environmental advisory to achieve objectives. With Sustainability in mind, climate change impacts was a consideration in their strategic asset plans and priority given to the realisation and measurement of social impact through provision of warm, safe, dry homes for the communities involved.

Dr Emina Kristina Petrovic, Victoria University of Wellington
Dr Emina Kristina Petrovic is a researcher and educator in the area of sustainability of built environment, and Senior Lecturer in Sustainability in Design at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.
In addition to teaching a large 100-level core introduction to sustainability in design environments course to over 300 students for the last 9 years, Petrovic’s research is pushing the boundaries of what makes building materials sustainable and how to accelerate positive uptake of sustainable innovation in construction industry.
As woman in a male dominated profession, Petrovic is also an inspiration for many students in built environment disciplines.

The Beca Project Management team successfully executed the Rapid Hospital Improvement Programme (RHIP) for Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora MidCentral. This intricate programme consisted of 12 specialised treatment areas for infectious disease patients at Palmerston North hospital. Demonstrating agility, our team facilitated seamless coordination among 13 designers and four contractors, adapting to evolving design guidance in a live environment. This enabled cost-effective delivery aligned with scope expectations, addressing the critical healthcare needs of the community’s infectious patients.

Meridian Energy Wellington HQ
Meridian Energy partnered with Unispace for the design and construction of their new home in Wellington’s iconic Old Bank Arcade. The workplace is one of New Zealand’s most sustainable spaces, targeting the world’s most stringent sustainability accreditation, the Living Building Challenge.
Implementing an Early Sub-Contractor Involvement (ESCI)-based delivery model, the integrated Unispace, Meridian and sub-contractor project team, designed, consented, and constructed this ambitious project in 12 months. A healthy and resilient space that extends the life of a heritage icon, the project represents Meridian’s and Unispace’s joint desire to improve the construction industry and wider social landscape.

Lisa Curtin is a Senior Project Manager in the Colliers Project Leaders office in Hamilton.
Having begun her career as an architect, she moved into project management and has rapidly developed into a top-performing team member.
She has worked on high-profile projects across the Waikato region, including the new Cambridge police station and The Pā at the University of Waikato.
Lisa is engaged with her local community and the property industry through governance and advisory roles. She also serves as one of eight mentors in Colliers Project Leaders’ Foundation Programme, which provides junior Project Managers with advice and guidance.

Penlink - O Mahurangi
The Building Consultancy Team at Babbage Consultants, comprised of the Building Surveying Team and the Land Surveying team, has managed over 250 condition surveys throughout North Auckland for the new highway project O Mahurangi – Pennlink.
The joint work has produced thousands of photographs and hundreds of reports and floor plans. The combined usage of traditional surveying tools and the industry-leading LEICA RTC 360 terrestrial laser scanner allowed the team to significantly reduce onsite survey time, whilst maintaining an above-industry standard of work.
The digital data collected serves as a detailed baseline evidence for comparison after the construction works have finished.

College & Mason Stages 1&2
DASL envisioned a transformation for suburb of Stonefields, Auckland. By masterplanning and developing a new micro suburb called College&Mason. A meticulously planned residential development spanning across 13,000 sqm.
The development looked to introduce a contemporary design wave with subtle nods to the past. The aim was to utilise traditional New Zealand building materials and designs, fostering community living and encouraging strangers to become neighbours and friends.
To achieve all of this and keeping in with the original design despite such challenging times with COVID and its lasting impacts, this is why DASL (James Brake) is deserving of the award.

For this project, JLL advocated client’s best interests through the TDD assessment by positioning them in a building that achieved a 6 Star Green Star. JLL’s excellence is evident by completing a design and construction in record time just in 6 and 10 weeks respectively with spending below 10% of the initial agreed budget.
JLL’s in-house technology tools OpenSpace and AdaptiveWork, provided real-time site visits for overseas client, fostering transparency and enhancing their experience. JLL optimised the space to achieve energy and carbon-emissions-reduction.

The B201 redevelopment project for the University of Auckland has transformed the 50-year-old Social Sciences Building, into a world-leading educational environment for the faculties of Education and Social Work, Arts, and Creative Arts and Industries.
Its innovative adaptive reuse strategy establishes a new standard for sustainable design, achieving the highest 6 Green Star Design Rating since inception, of 93/100.
The B201 project is one of New Zealand’s most sustainable developments and a world-leading exemplar of low-carbon design.
The project reduces embodied carbon, energy consumption, carbon emissions, and water usage while offering numerous ecological, cultural, and community benefits.

The WT Advisory Team’s work on the Heke Rua Archives building in Wellington redefines industry standards and contributes to a more sustainable future for construction. Building Surveying Team at WT
KiwiRail Roof Assessments
The team at WT undertook a significant project for KiwiRail, assessing 40,000m2 of roofs across 16 buildings at their Hutt Valley site. Tony Davison and Marvin Latour led the project, surpassing standard assessments. They created a bespoke Power BI dashboard, revolutionising surveying.
KiwiRail can now navigate data effortlessly, with drone footage, inspection comments, and repair costs at their fingertips. This interactive tool surpasses traditional reports, conveying insights effectively. Its swift interface aids KiwiRail in making strategic decisions impacting New Zealand’s transport network. The project’s scale and innovation set a new standard for building surveying, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and expertise.

WT New Zealand are delighted to recommend the Project Management team that collaborated on the development of a new warehouse facility at the Auckland Airport Precinct. This capable team is charged with steering the project through its design, procurement, and construction phases which encompasses 29,496m2, featuring two warehouses with a combined area of 16,089m2, accessory offices, and additional spaces for fabrication activities and vehicle parking.
This team’s expertise is pivotal in ensuring the successful completion and operational efficiency of the facility, reflecting WT’s commitment to excellence in project management.

Invercargill Central
Our incredible QS Team saw the urban fabric of the Invercargill CBD reimagined as a dynamic, walkable precinct with a total inner-city redevelopment of the Invercargill Central centre. This multi-use development comprises of three zones with an anchor tenant, retail facility and 650 space car park. Our team was responsible for the initial master planning of the site in 2018 and continued services as each of the three zones was delivered over a five-year period.
Working diligently and harmoniously with the entire project team, we collaboratively delivered a much needed end-user experience that is world-class and second to none.

Arlene serves as Contracts Manager for MTBM and Shaft sites for the Central Interceptor (CI) Project in Auckland, New Zealand. The $1.2B wastewater tunnel is a sustainability project aimed to reduce wastewater overflows. In three months of service, Arlene delivered a change management system and helped build and lead a team of QSs for the project.
Arlene promotes the standards of the QS Profession through her leadership as an elected Board of Trustee – National Secretary of PICQS with around 2000 Filipino members across ten chapters around the globe and also a certified professional of PICQS and a member of NZIQS.

Dr Emina Kristina Petrovic is a researcher and educator in the area of sustainability of built environment, and Senior Lecturer in Sustainability in Design at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.
In addition to teaching a large 100-level core introduction to sustainability in design environments course to over 300 students for the last 9 years, Petrovic’s research is pushing the boundaries of what makes building materials sustainable and how to accelerate positive uptake of sustainable innovation in construction industry.
As woman in a male dominated profession, Petrovic is also an inspiration for many students in built environment disciplines.

Rebecca Welker has made outstanding contributions since joining the construction industry in 2019. Rob is the Manager of National Asset Management seconded to the role of System Creation Lead, Asset Management and Maintenance at Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities, where he is leading a team who are reshaping and transforming asset management practices and the way maintenance is delivered to c72,000 state owned properties in New Zealand. In the little spare time he has, he is also a senior officer in the Royal New Zealand Naval Reserve where he is the Commanding Officer of HMNZS PEGASUS in Christchurch and is Deputy Chair of the New Zealand Registered Architects Board. Prior to taking up his role at Kāinga Ora, Rob was the CEO of Development Christchurch Limited (DCL), where he led a team focussed on supporting development opportunities and facilitating investment into Christchurch with the goal of contributing towards making Christchurch a modern world class city. Prior to this, Rob has held a number of leadership roles in New Zealand and abroad responsible for infrastructure development and management. Rob is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and has also been a Fellow of the Charted Institution of Water and Environmental Management. He has held a number of governance roles over the last 13 years, including the Arts Centre of Christchurch, Canterbury SPCA, St Andrews College and Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust.

Victoria has significant experience in environmental planning, policy development, compliance and sustainability, having been involved in resource management and strategic planning for over 30 years.
Her extensive experience of effective planning regulation and engagement across multi-disciplinary teams saw Victoria appointed as a key member of the local government planning recovery working group following the Canterbury earthquakes. This small team were appointed to work with the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority to develop strategic plans, planning regulation and redevelopment opportunities required to achieve urgent redevelopment while ensuring sustainable urban development and communities.
Victoria has extensive experience with both rural and urban planning to achieve effective and efficient sustainable land and water use. These skills are now being used to identify synergies, gaps and opportunities in her current role as an assurance manager.

Throughout his career Geoff has worked to find solutions that balance the technical aspects of building construction and regulation with the commercial goals of building owners and occupiers. He has been a chartered building surveyor for over 17 years, originally working for multi-disciplinary real estate firms in the United Kingdon, before re-locating to Christchurch in 2015.
Geoff is new a new addition to the RICS Awards New Zealand judging panel.
