All Students & Candidates registered with RICS are Regulated Members and are bound by RICS’ Charter, Bye-Laws, Regulations, Rules of Conduct, Standards and Guidance.
You automatically become a member of RICS Matrics as part of your RICS Student status. It not only provides an excellent network of local, regional and nationwide contacts but provides a good source of advice as well as being good fun – with regular social events and networking opportunities.
RICS Students are encouraged to become involved locally and can benefit from mentoring schemes, access to literature and market intelligence. Career advice and APC mentoring support ARE provided in a social environment as well as more formally as part of the university visits and forums. Placements and business opportunities are often offered as part of the RICS Matrics network.
Gaining an RICS accredited degree will put you ahead of the competition.
Once you are working in the field of surveying you can enrol on our Assessment of Professional Competency (APC) and start your journey to becoming a Chartered Surveyor.

You can start your journey to an RICS qualification whilst undertaking a work placement. You will need to enrol as an RICS student when you start your placement year - Student - before you enrol (rics.org).
When you graduate you will need to enrol onto the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), with structured training at Apply to join RICS.
As part of the APC enrolment process you will need to pay for your assessment fee and a subscription fee. Membership is renewed annually.

You can start recording your structured training from the point of starting your placement year, to be eligible to include your experience gained during your placement year you will need to enrol within 6 months of graduating and submit the Placement year enrolment Declaration.
A minimum of 1 year of your structured training must completed, post-graduation of your degree.
