RICS publishes four digital journals: Built Environment, Construction, Land and Property. The articles in these offer practical, technical and best practice updates for members and APC candidates.
Many of these articles are written by, or include material from, members themselves. We welcome suggestions for topics as well as potential writers.
Each journal is overseen by an Editorial Advisory Group (EAG) comprising RICS members and an in-house editor. The group draws up an editorial programme and gives all articles a technical review, while the editor works directly with authors to ensure they are supported through the writing process, as well as editing any submitted drafts.
If you want to be involved, please contact us by expressing your interest.
Please also attach supporting information to help illustrate your background and area of expertise.
The editor of the relevant journal will consider all submitted ideas and potential authors. Should the topics suggested or the potential author’s experience be relevant for our current editorial programme, the proposal will be passed on to the Editorial Advisory Group (EAG) for consideration.
If the editor and EAG believe that your suggestion is topical and fits in with the overall editorial plan, the editor will contact you to discuss the scope of your article and develop a detailed brief. They will also discuss the copyright agreement required for all material published on the journals site.
Yes. The editor will support you throughout the writing process, asking questions and offering suggestions on structure, as well as ensuring the EAG’s brief is clear . Along with the sub-editor, they will edit each draft to ensure the article fulfils its purpose, is clear and consistent and follows house style.
The editor and sub will ensure the article is edited to a high standard. The EAG is then responsible for giving it a technical review to ensure its accuracy.
